We condemn the rocket attack on 11 March 2020, which resulted in deaths and injuries at Taji Base where the personnel of the NATO Mission-Iraq and the Global Coalition to Defeat DAESH are currently deployed.

We expect the Iraqi authorities to arrest rapidly the perpetrators of this attack and bring them before justice, and also take pre-emptive measures to avoid the recurrence of such attacks in the future.

We hope that this attack, which targeted the foreign troops contributing to Iraq’s counter-terrorism efforts and supporting security capacity building in Iraq would not trigger a new spiral of conflict endangering the stability and security of our region. We call on all parties to act in restraint.
